the context

A growing service in a category with big potential to differentiate.

Up the Grade was already doing well — a maths tutoring service built around one of its founders. But the category around it looked identical: corporate, strict, and focused on scores. To grow beyond the personal brand model and the competition, the brand needed its own identity and world around it.

the concept

Students don't need more pressure. They need someone on their side.

Our competitor analysis showed every brand in the category promising results — and none building aspiration. So we flipped the emphasis: less about grades, more about the student. The idea: grades improve when a student starts trusting their own abilities and sees more opportunities ahead. The brand becomes a source of safety, not pressure.

the strategy

In a In a category that sells grades, build what grades can't measure.

Our competitor analysis showed every tutoring brand making the same promise: better results. When every promise is identical, no brand stands out — and for the student, each repetition of that promise adds pressure. So we found our position in what the category had left empty: aspiration. Up the Grade would be the brand about what knowledge leads to — understanding, independence, confidence — with better grades arriving as the consequence, not the condition. This works because it wins both decision-makers at once: parents get a calmer, more trustworthy process, and students get a brand that's finally on their side.

the concept

The concept treats learning as a climb, a journey. Every new piece of knowledge is a step up — and the higher you get, the more you see: more options, more confidence, more world. Knowledge isn't something you use once for a test; it travels with you, wherever you go after. That's the world the brand lives in — open landscape, height, movement — with the logo as its summit: a mountain with a sun above it.

Knowledge leads higher.

The Social Strategy

The goal was to build trust and a community around the brand. For that, we created a content strategy with three directions: Mathematics gives real value and shows competence, Beyond school connects learning to life, and Community makes students feel seen. We chose them because trust in tutoring grows from two things — proof that the teaching works, and the feeling that the brand understands you. Each direction breaks into ten repeatable themes, tagged for students, parents or both, so the system can run for years without going off-brand. The goal result: an audience that follows before it needs a tutor — and already trusts the brand when it does.

Building up the community’s trust

the result

From a personal brand to an independent one.

Up the Grade became a brand about what knowledge leads to — a learning world not confined to a classroom.

Most tutoring brands in the market speak the same way — formal, and focused on scores. Up the Grade now has a point of view: a student is an individual, and grades are just a tool to reach individual ambitions. That point of view runs through everything — the identity, the content, the way the brand talks.

Strategically, this changes three things. Trust doesn't reset when the team grows, because new tutors step into a standard that's already there. Parents can see what Up the Grade stands for before they ever reach out. And students get a brand that actually speaks to them — closer to the things they already follow than to school.
